Neurodiversity simply refers to the fact that we all think differently. Our brains can process information in amazing ways. There are many different ways in which that processing happens, and it varies from person to person. The world is a neurodiverse place.
People who process information in a way that is different from what is considered to be “typical” are considered to be neurodivergent or neuro-atypical, and there are many varieties of neurodivergence.
Some people attach diagnoses to these various ways of thinking, and common diagnoses may be Autism, AD/HD, NLD, SLD, OCD, Dyslexia, and Tourette’s. But the diagnoses are just a way of categorizing the various patterns common amongst neurodivervegent individuals.
The Neurodiversity Empowerment Network is committed to providing services in a way that is respectful to and empowering of the neurodivergent community, as well as the individuals in that community. Our primary goals are 1) to help make the world a place where all patterns of thinking are embraced and 2) to empower neurodivergent individuals to pursue their desired life paths and to become self-advocates. We believe that it is not right to ask neurodivergent individuals to do all of the changing. Society must move towards embracing diversity, as well.
